Via a good friend I’ve gotten hold of a rackmounted server. A Core 2 machine running at 2.4GHz, with 4 GB of RAM. It’s brand new, in a box not even opened. No disk, but that’s fixed via DustinHome who are shipping me a 2TB Western Digital Caviar Green as we speak, at a really, really, really good price…
There’s room for three hot-swapped S-ATA 2 disks in the machine, making expansion possible later on.
This server will replace the lab-server downstairs, which will in turn be made into a “mediamachine” beneath the TV, replacing the poor little Atom serving that purpose at the moment.
The Atom, in turn, will be converted into a desktop machine for “later”, when I can acquire some cheap flatscreen monitor.
Next week will be fun! 🙂
